Week 11

Week 11 in LC3

We have had a busy last week of Term 1. We can't believe this term is almost over! This week we have reflected on what we learned during the immersion phase of our Innovation concept. We talked about our MOTAT trip, the different robots we have learned about, what robots do and what we would want a robot to do if it could do anything! We reflected on all the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) challenges we have completed. We build Goldilocks a new chairs, a bridge and boat for the Three Billy Goats, a ladder for Rapunzel, a parachute for Jack and some houses for the Three Little Pigs.

Once we had reflected on our immersion phase all the children chose an area they wanted to explore further in our project phase. They explained to us what they wanted to learn more about and particular things they found challenging. We will jump straight into our project phase when we get back from our much needed holiday!

This week we were also lucky enough to have two Get, Set, Go sessions as we missed one due to Good Friday. We continued practicing our jumping skills and are going to combine all the skills we have learned this term on Friday through lots of games. We have really enjoyed these sessions and want to say a big thank you to Russ for teaching us lots of new things!

WEEK 9

WEEK 9

This week the children have been evaluating and redesigning their chairs for Goldilocks.  We will be making these chairs during the next few days.
On Tuesday we had specialist time, the children rotated around STEM, drama and soccer.  We have been having lots of discussions about "managing our time and resources" and how this looks in LC3.  In Te Reo this week we began learning names for objects that we can find in the classroom.

WEEK 8

WEEK 8 FUN IN LC3

This week we have had lots of fun continuing to learn about our concept of innovation.  We arrived at school on Monday to the mystery of a broken chair.  We looked at the clues - a necklace with the letter "g", a red ribbon and 3 bowls with porridge in.  We soon discovered that Goldilocks had visited LC3 over the weekend.  Following this we decided we needed to design and make a new chair that would hold Goldilocks.

We found it challenging that would could only use the materials that we planned to use.  Next week we are going to reflect on our designs and make another one.

This week at GET SET GO! we have been learning to jump over objects.  We even had to try and jump our own body height!

Week 7

Week 7

We are continuing to immerse the children in "Innovation" provocations and activities.  These have included making a robotic hand out of card and straws, testing which items float or sink and making robots using our tin cans, nuts and bolts and other junk materials.

For PINs this week we were very lucky to have two parents come in to led a workshop about Korean.  The children learnt how to bow and play a traditional board game.

We are continuing to take part in our GET SET GO! sessions.  We have been learning to skip, balance and hop.  The children have been learning lots of different games practicing these skills.

Week 6

Week 6 in LC3

We can't believe we are already over half way through Term 1! We have had a very busy week in LC3. At the start of the week we started preparing for our trip to MOTAT by talking about robots and what we thought robots could be and do. The possibilities seemed endless!

We have also been very lucky that we have had Mindkits at HPPS running Professional Development sessions for the teacher, which the children have also been able to attend. In LCs 1, 2, and 3 we have been learning about Edison Robots. We all learnt a lot!

On Wednesday was our trip to MOTAT! We all had an amazing day. We had time to explore different areas. We had an educator-led session during which we learnt all about Revolutionary Robots.

We also went on the tram (because you can't go to MOTAT without a trip on the tram). After all that excitement we were all very tired!

Week 5

Wow the term is flying by fast!  This week we have been very busy at Get Set Go! and having an awesome ignition day on Thursday around our next concept of innovation.  The children rotated around 5 stations with different teachers throughout the day.  Lots of fun was had by all and the children are getting excited.  Workshops included floating and sinking, planes, sound, making paper bridges and many more.

At Get Set Go we have been learning how to skip, this is a skill that can be practiced at home as well.

Week 4 in LC3

We have had a busy week in LC3!

We have been learning the school song with Matua Araz. Here are the words and a video if you would like to practice it at home!

We have also been busy running more PINs workshops. It has been great to see so many children keen to plan and run different workshops. There have also been several workshops run by two children, it has been wonderful to see this collaboration.

We are wrapping up our identity topic and have been talking about rules and why they are important. LC3 have come up with some rules we think are important for our common. We have also made a book illustrating these rules. Come and have a look!

Welcome back to 2018

WEEK 3

LC3 have been busy this week with specialist time (music, drama, PE and stem), a Kelly Sports demonstration, Te Reo classes, Get Set Go sports and beginning reading and writing workshops.  We have been focused on learning how to share in our common and work with different people that we may not know yet.

On Friday we have our weekly PINs workshops led by the children.  It is fantastic to see so many children wanting to plan and lead a workshop for their peers - from treasure hunting to drawing.
